BETSEY LONGLEY (1808)This is believed to be a Canadian sampler and we are in the process of researching it in hopes of having more information on it at a later date. For a Canadian sampler it is quite early as the majority were stitched at later dates. It is a beautiful and rather elegant sampler containing the
usual alphabets (three of them), a verse and a garden scene at the bottom. All encompassed by a beautiful carnation border. We have matched up the colors with those on the back of the sampler. Stitches used are cross, satin, queen, chain, roman, and some freehand embroidery. From the
collection of the Essamplaire.
