Mary Pierce-1770

Mary Pierce-1770Mary stitched her delightful Adam and Eve sampler when she was 14 years old. It is a well balanced sampler with some lovely small bands and the usual alphabet worked in Algerian eye stitch. She included the ten commandments in verse form and a moral verse. This sampler is part of the small collection at Wilton Hall, the home of a prominent Virginian, in Richmond, Virginia. Part of the proceeds of this sampler will go to Wilton Hall to help with conserving their textile collection. Stitches used are cross stitch, cross stitch over one, Algerian eye, satin stitch and rice stitch
