GRAPE SAMPLERThis tiny Dutch sampler comes from "Het Schielandshuis". The Historical Museum in Rotterdam access no. 20127. It is believed to have been made in the second half of the 1700's. According to the beliefs of the Middle Ages, the grape carriers of Kanaan, Joshua and Kaleb are a symbol of Judaism and Holiness. The grape bunch means Christ Himself. Various border patterns surround this sampler which is worked entirely in cross
stitch using silk floss.

Thread Count: 35 count (14 thr/cm) on dyed linen.
