Alce, Frances -1792

Frances Harriet Alce was born 18 January 1782, the daughter of James and Ann Alce. James was a jeweler in the Parish of Christ Church, Southwark, Surrey, England. Frances had one older brother, James, born 4 July 1770. She stitched a wonderful sampler with an urn with a multitude of flowers, some of which are worked in free hand embroidery. This is flanked on either side by birds, angels, Adam and Eve and Mary and Joseph. The bottom half contains an elegant town house and and idyllic family scene, a lovely tree and a pond with swans.

Franses used cross stitch, cross over one thread, tent, satin, double running stitch, chain stitch, four sided stitch and free hand embroidery in her sampler. The chart comes with an exact to size colour copy of the model, chart, line drawings for the free hand embroidery
