AM-17th century Dutch

AM-17th century DutchNew! This sampler is new to our collection.

This particular sampler is a true practice sampler and is from North Holland. AM stitched some small bands and various motifs such as the winged heart and pierced heart using both double running stitch and marking cross. Towards the bottom there are some lovely whitework bands stitched in various techniques including some cut work. The entire sampler is hem stitched and along the left hand edge she worked what they call mice teeth, a form of picots.
There are some small holes in the sampler.

Included with the sampler is an Antiques magazine, from 1925 which has an article written in it on Dutch Samplers by Elinor Merrell and this particular sampler is pictured in it.
