Sarah Cock-1744

Sarah Cock-1744Sarah’s cheery sampler is of British origin and we know of at least one other sampler that is very similar in appearance. The corners contain the very popular reclining stag and she stitched some squirrels in the lower section. Almost the entire sampler has been filled in with cross stitch and other stitches used in this sampler are cross over one, queen stitch and marking stitch.
The original sampler is in the collection of the Cooper Hewitt, accession no. 1941-69-27.
