WEDDING SAMPLERAn original design from The Essamplaire. The central section with the man, woman and vases are reproduced from a white lace work sampler from 1667. This design was taken from Sibmacher, Johann, "Newes Modelbuck in Kupffer gemacht," Nuremburg, 1601. This was a very popular pattern book
and ran to several editions in the early 17th century.
Stitches used are cross, cross over one thread, satin, eyelet, herringbone, and back stitch. Text: "Henceforth you go down life's pathway together, and may the Father of all mercies bind you together in true love and faithfulness and grant you His blessing."
