ELLEN MURRAY SAMPLER (1829)Ellen Murray made her miniature sampler for a friend in 1829. It was not an uncommon practice to make and give small samplers as gifts. This sampler is reproduced from The Burrell Collection in Glasgow, Scotland, aces, no. E1979.211. The entire sampler is worked in cross stitch over one thread and some satin stitches in silk floss.
