ELIZABETH DAINTY (1742)

ELIZABETH DAINTY (1742)A transitional sampler from the Fitzwilliam Museum on Cambridge, England (access no. T147-1928). Elizabeth's sampler shows the gradual change occuring from the 17th century band sampler to later samplers which utilized borders and verses. Her sampler is still long but not as narrow as earlier ones and it has the various pattern bands but a verse and simple border are used as well. She stitched her sampler at 9 years of age.
Stitches used are cross stitch, Algerian eye, satin, holbein and double sided cross.
