Ann Wing-1739“Ann Wing is my name New England is my Nation and Boston is my Dwelling place,so reads the inscription on Ann’s sampler. Another part of the inscription reads, “when I am dead and all my bones are rotten When this you see remember me and never let me be forgotten.Ann’s charming and
colourful sampler contains a lovely band and some great floral motifs with sheep, a goose and a dog. She was thirteen years old when she stitched her sampler. She used mainly marking cross, some tent stitch, satin, long armed cross, cross over one, long and short satin and some
stem and straight stitches. The original sampler is housed in the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, accession no. 77.150.
